A Museum in Transformation – An Overview of the Museum

Since its opening in 2010, the permanent exhibition has gradually evolved. The thematic tour “People in Their Worlds” is expanded through temporary and permanent installations that offer contemporary perspectives on the collection and give voice to people from the Global South.
How does an ethnological museum grapple with its colonial past? Which perspectives are visible, and which are missing? What insights about ourselves and what visions of the future can we develop?
This guided tour addresses current debates on colonial violence, historical injustices, and their consequences, and reflects on the museum’s role in a pluralistic society.
